Iran, Oman to make first joint film

Iran and Oman sign film co-production treaty to make first joint film ‘Lua Lua’ (Pearl).

Iran and Oman have signed a film co-production treaty to make their first joint film ‘Lua Lua’ (Pearl).

The agreement was signed by private-sector cineastes from the two countries in a ceremony in Muscat.

The ceremony was attended by a representative of the Iranian embassy in Oman and the chairman of Oman Society for Films and Theatre (OSFT).

Upon the accord, the two sides agreed to start the execution phase of co-producing the feature film ‘Lua Lua’.

Mohammed al-Kandi, one of Omani cineastes and the Omani director of the project, expressed his pleasure over the cooperation with Iranian filmmakers, saying “The capacities of Iranian cinema … and its successes are a good opportunity for Omani cineastes to benefit from Iran’s outstanding experience.”

Humaid al-Ameri, the chairman of OSFT, expressed hope that the production of ‘Lua Lua’ would pave the way for further development in cultural ties between Tehran and Muscat.

Majid Kianinejad, a representative of Iran’s embassy in Oman, also hoped that ‘Lua Lua’ would kick-start further cooperation between the two countries in the field of co-producing joint films.

The film would be directed by Iranian filmmaker Mehrdad Movaffaq and would star casts from the two countries.

The execution phase of the film’s production is expected to begin in the next months.
